Amazon Nightstand Must Haves: Home Sick Edition

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

So, it's that time of the year...cold and flu season. Just when you think you're settled into a good schedule with your family, it hits. And that's where I am right as I'm writing this. On Friday I felt wiped out- by Friday night I had a small fever. So I went into "sick mode" and prepared my nightstand. But long gone are my days of random tissues boxes and nightstand chaos. These days I'm all about a simple yet functional bedside table set up that is as attractive as it is useful. So before I descend into the worst of this sickness, I present to you my favorite "home sick" must havea from Amazon for your nightstand.

*(Not a sponsored post- all items purchased with my own money and well used to test for quality and function. Links are affiliate- and I always appreciate your support by shopping through my links!!)

When I say simple- I mean exactly that. I've seen elaborate "sick day must haves", but honestly, for me, when I'm not feeling well, I just need things easy and functional- but easy and functional doesn't have to mean aesthetically unpleasing. There's no reason we can't have both!

And the best part is these aren't things that are exclusive for when you're sick. These are items I use every day that are extra handy when you're under the weather. So in no particular order, here are my five bedside must haves- home sick edition.

Staying hydrated is important all the time- but especially when you're sick. I've had several brands over the years and my two favorites are definitely the Contigo Autoseal Tumbler and the Yeti 20 oz. Rambler. If you really want your hots to stay hot and your colds to stay icy cold- the Yeti is a work horse. Mind you- I opt for the tumblers and use my own straw. And when I'm sick, I do prefer disposable straws for the obvious germ reasons. (The Yeti actually comes with a separate top and straw option). I find these tumblers typically used for tea or coffee the easiest to clean, as opposed to the usual water bottles that have lots of places for germs to hide and need extra care when washing- not something you want to be doing, especially when you're sick.

Because when you're sick, you need all the hydration-without the water marks left behind. I always have a glass of ginger ale or a sports drink in addition to a water to be sure I'm keeping nice and hydrated. And I have tried so many different coaster materials over the years and trust me- they are not all created equal. Paper ones tend to warp, marble ones allow the condensation to drip off of and cork ones that just absorb the run off and, like paper, can warp. And then there are the ones that stick to the bottom of your glass when you go for a drink- and then crash down when the suction gives. Well, we don't need to be worrying about any of that- especially when we're sick. These braided coasters I found on Amazon for under $9 for a set of 6 are not only useful, but also really cute, coming in colors to go with almost any decor. I love the natural look of them and I've used them over and over not only for mugs and glassware, but also for under small candle holders to protect my surfaces. No warping- and no sticking.

Like the other items, this is another one of those useful for daily life products that is especially helpful when you're sick with a cold or flu. Many humidifiers, like water bottles, can be tricky to clean, and the last thing you want is hidden mold that you're breathing in. I've used this exact table top humidifier for years, including one for each of my kids. It comes in white, a smoky grey navy and light pink and comes with a USB cord. I like it's small footprint and simple, streamlined design, and the nightlight feature in both white and colored soft light so you can easily see your bedside items at nighttime without being distracted by a glaring light. I find filling it as high as possible and putting it on intermittent spray lasts me the night, and keeps the air next to me moist for improved breathing. And the simple interior makes for an easy cleanup.

What better way to plug in your phone and humidifier than a desktop USB power strip. This one I've had for a few years offers 3 outlet and 3 USB ports. I must thank my hubby for this purchase- but truth be told, this product in white would have been a nice touch on my white nightstand. Lucky for you, it now comes in both a black or white option- and keeps your must have electric items within reach anytime- but especially when you're too sick to be getting up more than you need to.

This is probably the least necessary but still one of my favorite nightstand upgrades. When a cold hits, tissues are a must- and while it's not cruicial that your tissues be asthetically pleasing, I can't deny how visually appealing these faux leather tissues box covers are. They're light weight, but functional, and I've gotten them in both the square (found here) and rectangular shapes (found here). The rectangular ones are nice and deep and work for both smaller rectangular boxes as well as those big oversized boxes that we need when a runny nose won't quit, and the square ones fit the traditional cube box perfectly. And coming in an array of options from neutrals to colors, you'll find one to fit in any decor.

So that's it- my 5 nightstand must haves from Amazon for when you're down and out and battling the sickies- or any time really. Who doesn't love a product that works for daily life and those more specific needs??
